PRESIDENT’S
MESSAGE |
Our
last meeting was short a few members and we pray for those who had a
difficult life challenge to face. We all share our sympathy with Gene Omasta
and his family as they lost his grandson’s wife in an accident. Several
others could not attend due to illnesses. On
a positive note I am happy to report that Sandy and Danese
both recovered from respective surgeries and were back playing their
accordions again. The
orchestra practiced well and I am pleased with the selections we are
preparing to perform at our concert in February 2020. The Sound of Music
medley brings back fond memories and who doesn’t like Rodgers and Hammerstein?
The Billboard March should get people fired up as well. Want
to thank Clyde for his class and Betty for playing at our lunch break.
However, the highlight of Betty’s performance might have been when I asked
her to talk about her recent French performance on the streets of Birmingham.
It was quite a unique venue with hundreds of people attending. At
the business meeting, Craig confirmed our next concert will be February 15,
2020 featuring Dr. Mike Middleton (1PM and 7PM). As such we are asking the
orchestra to perform at both concerts. We will be publishing some flyers for
the concert and ask all to send them out to your respective networks. We will
be discussing other advertising efforts at our next meeting on January 18th,
2020. I know normally the concert substitutes as that quarterly meeting, but
since the orchestra is playing at the concert, I thought it important we have
one more practice/performance prior to the February concert. In addition, it
is always fun for this group to get together and share the music. There
were several notable moments during the November program. First, I want to
compliment those who played duets or group songs. It takes discipline and
practice to work together to present your piece. However, there were several
players that either extended themselves or their music provided a strong
emotional response. For example, when Jim Bossert was playing, you could tell
how much he loved playing and the audience responded to his passion. Also,
Dan Burque stretched himself by performing March of
the Toys (a very difficult piece). My favorite was Keith’s rendition of
Oblivion. It definitely made you want to move. Encourage
all to select your two pieces soon for the next meeting. As always, challenge
yourself but have fun at the same time. Was interesting I tried some rock and
roll in this last program and think one song worked and the other didn’t. But
we don’t know what works unless we try. Let’s get a full house in January in
preparation for our February concert. Sincerely, Frank Caravella President |
